tiziano dipinse quattro grandi tele dei dannati per maria d'ungheria , Charles V's sorella e il suo reggente nei paesi bassi . rappresentavano tityus , Sisifo , tantalo e ixion , tutti condannati a torture perpetue per aver incorso nel dispiacere degli dei . solo tityus e sisifo sono ancora esistenti . tityus fu condannato a farsi divorare il fegato perpetuamente da un avvoltoio per aver violentato latona e sisifo per trasportare una roccia all'infinito su una collina per spettegolare Zeus's relazione con egira . il loro gigantismo è michelangelesco , e tityus è modellato su un disegno di michelangelo di 1532 . In queste due tele , Tiziano ottiene ricchi effetti di colore e chiaroscuro con una tavolozza limitata in un assaggio del suo stile tardo .
